| Drillstem Testers |
Northstar has 5 openings for Drillstem Testers. This is a challenging 21 days on/7days off, on-call field technician role with on the job training servicing all of Western Canada for the first year of employment, with the possibility of international work. Previous oilfield service/rig experience, communication and customer service skills are an asset.
A day in the life of a Drillstem Tester:
21/7 Rotation: While on-call
- Shop work is performed Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30.
- Call-out's can be immediate, and testers need to be prepared, and available to go in the field.
- We go to drilling rigs to run DST tools in open-hole wells. This typically takes 1 to 2 days.
Service Area
- The majority of our work is in Alberta, however, we routinely perform some work in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
- We have shops in Edmonton, and Grand Prairie. It is sometimes mandatory for our Edmonton testers to work out of our Grand Prairie shop when necessary.
- We are rapidly expanding to other countries, so international work is likely.
Employment Requirements
- A valid Canadian passport.
- A drivers abstract to be approved by our insurance provider.
- A passed drug screen.

| DST Field Engineer |
The Northstar Field Engineer (NFE)Position is a challenging and rewarding position. Northstar recently started NFE program with the goal of recruiting candidates with high potential and developing them into versatile, well rounded leaders in a compressed time frame (1 - 2 years).
The rigorous 6/3/3 schedule (6 weeks in the field, 3 weeks in the office, 3 week vacation) exposes the Field Engineer to all aspects of Northstar's business including:
Field Operations
Operations Management
Design Engineering
Manufacturing
Technical Sales
The Field Engineer must be based in Calgary or Edmonton, however will spend the majority of their time in the field on various international rig locations. In the field the NFE will be working shoulder to shoulder with Northstar's international Technicians doing pre-job planning and design, downhole tool operation, preparation & maintenance and job reporting. The Field Engineer must have the physical and mental stamina to execute to make critical decisions under pressure and work long hours.
Though the work is challenging definitely not for everyone, high output, high energy performers will find the experience and opportunities for personal and career growth are limitless. Field Engineers are encouraged to travel and experience the countries and cultures they are working in on their vacation time.
After successfully completing the program the Field Engineer will be promoted to a leadership role as:
Field Coordinator
Design Engineer or Manager

Training Manager
Technical Sales Manager
Area Manager

Assist with job quoting as required
Assist with continuous improvements

Manual lathe operation (Journeyman, greater than 5 years' experience)

Northstar is currently recruiting for contract EXPAT Drillstem Testers based out of South Asia, South East Asia, North Africa and The Middle East. Previous well testing experience, communication and customer service skills are required.
This successful candidate will be reporting to the Vice President of Operations, and is responsible for conducting open-hole and cased-hole drillstem testing in various international field locations.
This position employs senior experience and skills levels to ensure that all technical aspects of service and/or products are utilized properly including assembly and function. Technicians are responsible to run or administer the product, tool or service efficiently while representing the organization and its services.
Accountabilities include:
- Precise operation of tools and equipment
- Planning DST
- Servicing tools and equipment pre and post job
- Inventory of tools and equipment pre and post job
- Communication and co-ordination of on-site DST activities with client and Northstar Drillstem Testers
- Customer service
- Tear-down, transport, and quality of tools and equipment
